SpongeBob SquarePants is the main protagonist, and the eponymous character, of the Nickelodeon animated comedy series of the same name. He was designed by marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg, and is voiced by Tom Kenny. SpongeBob is a childish, joyful, eccentric sea sponge who lives in a pineapple in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom. He works as a fry cook at The Krusty Krab, a job that he is exceptionally skilled. SpongeBob lacks a lot of knowledge and is a constant annoyance to those around him (especially Squidward Tentacles), but he is very good-natured. He appears in all of the episodes in the series, and he was soon to be Nickelodeon's main mascot.

Patrick Star is the deuteragonist of the SpongeBob series. He is an unintelligent and pleasant sea star who is SpongeBob's best friend and neighbors. Patrick is quite overweight and enjoys eating ice cream and many other kinds of junk food.

Squidward Q.Tentacles is the tritagonist of the series. He is the neighbor between SpongeBob and Patrick. Squidward is a cephalopod. Squidward is a very selfish individual and displays an unjustified air of superiority.

Eugene H. Krabs, simply and more commonly known as Mr. Krabs, is a crimson sea crab who is the owner of the Krusty Krab as well as the employer of both SpongeBob SquarePants and Squidward Tentacles. He is extremely greedy and quite literally obsessed with money.

"Sandy" Cheeks is one of the main characters in the SpongeBob series. Sandy is a squirrel and is SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star and Squidward Tentacles's friend. Sandy is notable for her Texas characteristics and knowledge of Karate and science.

Sheldon J. Plankton (born November 30, 1942; age 73) is Mr. Krabs' nemesis and the main antagonist in the SpongeBob SquarePants television series. His primary goal is to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula and put Mr. Krabs out of business.

Gerald "Gary" Wilson Jr. is SpongeBob's pet sea snail. Gary usually can only say, "Meow," while sea worms in the show bark, which indicates that snails are the ocean equivalent of cats and worms are the equivalent of dogs.
